Slow Living & What it Means For Me

As the seasons change and take on a new cycle, slowing things down, the nights are drawing in and the days are shorter. More and more time is spent indoors keeping cosy and warm and general energy is also affected as everything seems to slow down. It has set me thinking about slowing down life altogether. Slow living For me is living in a more calm and peaceful way, which is something that I strive to do every single day, it is living in a way that is more intentional and in the moment because really “now” is the only moment that we really have. I try to savour the little things and practice an attitude of gratitude moment by moment on a daily basis. It may be a strange concept to some especially in a world where the glorification of busy is the norm and we are usually programmed to strive for more, more, bigger, better, faster, constantly comparing ourselves to others whether that is on the internet, in friendship groups or within our families.

What if instead of comparing ourselves to others we took a long hard look at ourselves and all round us and find joy in the little things that we may have achieved even in just one day? It’s really so easy to do when you get into the habit of practicing it. I mean what if I’m happy with my life the way that it is? what if not wanting to be “successful” in the traditional sense, or having the best or latest new fangled thing or insta famous is okay. What if just being is enough, what if just getting through the next few minutes or hours is enough, what I already have is enough. Well I am saying that it is enough, I am enough and you are enough just as you are.

Living in a way that is full of calm and peace is so beautiful to me, taking time to really savour that cup of tea in the small early morning hours before the day begins, taking the the time to write in a journal or enjoy a hug from a loved one without the need to grab a phone and start scrolling on social media is so soul fulfilling. It is little moments like these that make up a life of living intentionally in the moment and before you know it you are immersed in slow living. Have you heard of slow living, slowing down to savour life more intentionally? How would you like to incorporate some more slow living rituals into your life?
