Ten Autumnal Self Care Routines

Ah September!, where do we begin? This year has gone by so unbelievably fast don’t you think? Anyhow I awoke this morning and much as I have tried to avoid acknowledging it, there was a definite noticeable chill in the air. Cue me reaching for the nearest fluffy cardigan that I had on hand to throw on for the day. With the bright long summer days long gone I guess it is time to hunker down and prepare for the weeks and months ahead as here in the northern hemisphere Summer collapses into Autumn. The time of year has got me thinking about some self care routines that can be incorporated into the day or days ahead that can make things a little bit more bearable and dare I say even enjoyable.

Here are some ideas of things that we can incorporate into our autumn routines;

  • Write in a journal; Whether that is early in the morning or late at night before sleeping, it is a great idea to do some journaling.

  • Wrap up / bundle up warm and go for a lovely brisk autumn stroll to take in the fresh air and nature around you. Maybe visit a local farmers market or craft fair if there is one nearby.

  • Enjoy a seasonal cup of your favourite hot drink of your choice, be it a coffee, hot chocolate or tea, it is sure to make you feel all warm and cosy inside.

  • In the same vein, it is nice to combine two things at once so how about a visit to your favourite local cafe or coffee shop where you can enjoy a hot drink and people watch too!

  • Cooking a tasty pot of soup or baking a favourite dessert is always a good thing to make you feel all warm and cosy and it makes your home smell amazing too.

  • Talking of smells, how about trying out some nice autumnal scents in your diffuser, or burning some incense or candles if you prefer.

  • Indulge in a lovely warm candle lit soothing bath with some added salts for relaxing in.

  • Buy yourself some flowers.

  • Have a de clutter around the home to usher in the new season, this will make you feel good and productive.

  • Wrap yourself up in your cosiest knitwear that you own.

  • Cosy up and watch a movie or better yet get into a good book.

Whatever you choose to do from this list, I hope that it brings you much cosiness, warmth and love.
