In this post I will be talking a bit more about some of the holistic healing modalities that you can try that can help towards the road to healing and recovery of physical illness and or trauma. There are so many healing modalities out there and I will be touching on just a few of them to begin with mostly on those that have I personally have an interest in or have experienced myself.
Below is a list of healing systems to try or look into;
Acupuncture
Acupuncture is a healing modality that has its roots in ancient traditional Chinese medicine and has been used for thousands of years up until the present day to relieve ailments in the body and treat disease. this system involves the insertion of thin needles under the skin to stimulate a healing response in the body relative to whatever ailment is being treated. The treatment is mostly used in conjunction with other methods of healing.
Ayurveda
Ayurvedic Medicine is the sister healing modality to yoga and is one the worlds most ancient whole body holistic healing systems. It originated in India around five thousand years ago and was considered the mother of all healing systems. The focus of Ayurveda is on the maintenance of balance of lifestyle, diet and herbs and of the three energy constituents of the body that every individual has which are called the doshas. The doshas of each person are as unique as a fingerprint and it is the keeping of the balance of these energy constituents that help maintain optimal health. the subject of Ayurveda is very broad and in-depth but it also very fascinating to delve into.
Aromatherapy
Aromatherapy can be defined as the use of essential oils for therapeutic benefit. It uses natural plant extracts to promote health and wellbeing in an individual, through smell and skin absorption by the use of things such as diffusers, body oils, inhalers, bathing salts, aromatic sprays amongst many other products. Aromatherapy is said to have various benefits like helping to combat bacteria, viruses and fungi, soothe sore joints, help with insomnia and migraines amongst other things. Aromatherapy may positively help a range of conditions like, alopecia, asthma, arthritis, menstrual issues, menopause and fatigue to name but a few. Its use is wide and varied and very interesting also the more that you learn about it and what it can do for you and your health.
Breathwork
What is breath work? breath work is the use of our innate ability to breathe consciously to help us to manage various health symptoms and alleviate them. In a previous post I touched on breath work and the benefits of box breathing which is a specific breathing technique that can be used to help alleviate stress and anxiety. There are various breathing techniques out there that can be used to our benefit, and the influence of breathing exercises can be far reaching improving our physical, mental and spiritual wellbeing. It can be thought of as an active form of meditation and is very beneficial for anyone to practice. There are trained breath work facilitators that can help you to delve deeper into this practice. Breath work can also be found as an integral part of Yoga.
Reiki
Reiki is form of healing that involves the use of of energy and laying on of hands to help balance the life force energy of an individual which in turn brings about healing. It is said that it can be used to help alleviate the symptoms of almost any condition and can be used alongside any other treatments. Reiki is spiritual in nature although that doesn’t necessarily mean that you have to be spiritual or even believe in it for it to work and be beneficial to you. Reiki is usually performed by a reiki practitioner who would have been “attuned” to the reiki energy by a reiki master.
Yoga
Ah! yoga, one of of my favourite healing and transformative modalities. Yoga is the sister to Ayurveda with both systems originating thousands of years ago in ancient India. The translation of the word Yoga from Sanskrit is” to yoke” or union. Yoga is a system that aims to unite the mind, body and spirit. There are 8 limbs (components) of yoga and the one that is most widely seen is Asana which is the physical practice. It is a varied and complex but complete practice that works to ensure a healthy mind and body and spirit.
Cupping
Cupping is a form of healing therapy in which suction cups are used on the body to improve the flow of energy and facilitate healing. It is an ancient practice that can be traced back as far as ancient Egypt and in Chinese traditional medicine. The cupping increases blood flow to the area and can help to relieve tension in muscles. Blood circulation is improved and cell repair is also encouraged during cupping, it is thought to improve symptoms by improving immunity and promoting blood circulation.
I hope you find these healing modalities interesting to explore and perhaps try one or two.
