If nothing ever changed

In Life things can get a whole lot of hectic! on a regular basis, one minute you are bumping along quite nicely or so you think and the next you are a bawling mess of emotions. It is then that you have to take some time out, literally stop and re-evaluate things, It is time to tackle the feeling and the effects of overwhelm. There are gentle ways we can deal with burnout and nurture ourselves back into a place of balance and calm.

First we have to try and pinpoint the source of our feelings of overwhelm and burnout, what are the things that are contributing to this feeling of complete helplessness? The feeling itself is an indication that our body is crying out for help for you to press the pause and reset button in life. This means that we can no longer continue on the same path if we wish to live a truly fulfilling day to day life. Lately I had been feeling this all too familiar feeling and that inspired me to write this blogpost as I go through the motions.

Holistic Approaches

The initial thing to do is rest and actively seek rest, that is take whatever time you have not to worry, stress or deliberate about things that you have no control over but to have a complete break from the source of the stress, you need quiet, you need gentleness and you need balance.

Nourish platter

Another thing that we can do is to make sure that we are nourishing ourselves in the best way for our bodies, that we are eating things that make us feel good and alive! Fresh organic food is often the best option, and what we eat can have a direct impact on how we feel about ourselves.

The third thing we can do is to move our bodies in a way that is mindful. This can be in the form of gentle exercise such as yoga, pilates or a nice long walk out in nature. These things are great in helping to release the feel good hormones that we need to overcome some of the more negative feelings that have been clouding over us.

journaling

Connection is another really good way to deal with burnout, we need to reconnect back to who we really are. This can be by incorporating mindful practices like a little bit of meditation or journaling about our feelings. For some of us it may even help to reach out to a trusted partner or friend to talk about how we may be feeling in this very moment.

Burnout

Healing is a very important part of dealing with burnout and it is different for each and every person that goes through it. We need to want to heal our minds , our bodies and our souls. Surrounding ourselves with positive influences and experiences is also an important part of healing. Healing can take time too, weeks, months or even years, it is important that we don’t get too hung up on time and instead just take our healing journey step by step until we can regain some sort of balance in our lives and feel like we can breathe again. Talking of breathing, taking deep breaths is a good and immediate way to reduce stress levels and bring our attention back into the present moment. It is also okay and healthy to want to stay in your own lane and say “No”! to people and things sometimes. It is my hope that this guide has been helpful to you.
